Steve Goggans, President of SGA Architecture, announced the addition of a new dimension of the soon to be 30-year old design firm with the association of Russ Campbell, LLC. Goggans noted the association will provide its clients with the “experience and expertise of many decades of planning, development, sales and operations that Russ brings to the SGA team.”
Campbell observed that he is pleased to be associated with a dynamic multi-office design team in one of the nation’s regions demonstrating vigorous growth and progress on many fronts. He expects to share his experience in the coastal environment, historic venues, recreation, hospitality, shopping centers and resort and permanent home lifestyles with SGA’s varied client base.
SGA Architecture has been in business for over 27 years and offers land planning, landscape architecture, architecture and interior design solutions to educational, governmental, commercial, cultural, ecclesiastical, park & recreation and residential clients.
For many years, Campbell has been involved with planning and development of coastal areas, principally in the creation of large scale destination communities. These have been special places that include Seabrook Island, near Charleston, and Prince Creek at Murrells Inlet in South Carolina. He also has managed and developed destinations in the Arizona mountains, Fairfield Flagstaff, and on the Tennessee plateau, Fairfield Glade. These multi-use communities ranged in size from 2400 acres to 12,000 acres.
He was also associated as chief operating officer for The Litchfield Company in its planning, development and operations of Pawleys Island projects including the Litchfield Country Club, Litchfield by the Sea, Willbrook Plantation, Inlet Point, The Shops at Litchfield Market Village, and other related developments.
While in Charleston he was involved in one of the early real estate conversions. In this case it was of the Ashley House, a 12 story for-rent apartment building to a condominium, and the planning, design, construction and leasing of a new 100,000 square foot Class A office building in the Historic District. During this period he also provided consulting services to national clients involving projects in Manhattan in New York, also Charlotte and Sarasota among the portfolio. Other consults involved projects in Texas on Lake Texhoma, the North Carolina high mountains, a historic block on the Florida Gulf Coast and other venues which have added to a wide variety of challenges and experience.
Personally, Campbell is a South Carolina native, married with two children and three grandchildren. He graduated from Clemson University where he was president of The Numeral Society, the first social fraternity at the college, and Art Editor of The Tiger. He also was a recipient of a Peace Scholarship which led to his entry into the daily newspaper business as an editor and columnist in Greenville.
After work as a staff manager with community economic development organizations in Greensboro and Charleston, Campbell joined Clemson classmates in the creation of an architecture firm, now LS3P. Work on planning projects with LS3P led to his role as senior vice president of development at Seabrook.
Campbell is a member of the Pawleys Island Rotary Club, a former Senior Warden in several Anglican churches, a past president of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Association, active in several Chambers of Commerce as a board member, founder of the Palmetto Touchdown Club, founding chairman of St. Christopher’s Children and the Clemson Advancement Board of Real Estate Development, board of directors of HeartReach and other organizations and boards.
