What an exciting week! We have been featured in an article in The Charlotte Observer about a proposed mixed-use development in the Sedgefield/ South End neighborhoods in Charlotte! We are currently working with Marsh Properties on the schematic design for the housing sector of this two-phase project. The new development will include 98,000 square feet of retail, 1,200 multi-family units and a new park for the neighborhood.
Addressing the nearby New Bern light rail station was a focal point in the proposed higher density housing design. The development will have a pedestrian-friendly vibe with buildings that have been pushed back from the street in an effort to preserve the mature oak trees that line the neighborhood’s streets. The plan is to have “small shops with outdoor gathering spaces and restaurants featuring rooftop dining” within walking distance of the new residences.
The 60-acre site will be up for rezoning in July. If it is approved, the retail center will begin construction in 2015 with the residential construction to follow shortly thereafter.
